Last winter, two Pikesville families, the Fishers and the Hakims traveled to Philadelphia to visit what’s commonly known as the Rocky Steps, a site universally recognized for its role in the Academy Award-winning film “Rocky” and its four sequels. A popular tourist attraction for “Rocky” fans, climbing the Rocky Steps has come to symbolize the completion of a spectacular accomplishment. The families had come to witness exactly that — a feat far more remarkable that the one performed by Sylvester Stallone’s character, Rocky Balboa, in the iconic films.
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, how do you measure a year in the life? Or in this case, how do you measure a year without one? That’s what the Fisher family has done since husband and father, Daron Fisher passed away from brain cancer on August 9th, 2013. Today, Daron’s wife Beth and her two children, Emory and Alana, begin year number two without him. Time marches on, you never get over it, you simply get on with it.
OCEAN CITY, Md.- It was a refreshing morning as people plunged into the cold waters of Ocean City for the 2014 Winter Brawl for a cause. The event took place in honor of Daron Fisher, husband, father and friend. The Winter Brawl raised money to help those battling something much more challenging than a little cold water, brain cancer.
KEEP PUNCHING RAISES $27,000 FOR BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH AND PATIENT SUPPORT AT THIRD ANNUAL 5K, 1-MIL
Keep Punching, Inc., a Baltimore-based 501c(3) non-profit organization that strives to support patients, healthcare providers and researchers in their fight to prevent and eradicate brain cancer, raised $27,000 at its Third Annual 5K, One-Mile Run and Kids Fun Races, held on Saturday, May 22, at Goucher College. The organization immediately donated $25,000 of the raised funds to Columbia University Medical Center in New York in a check presentation ceremony following the races.

Jewish Baltimore woke up bright and early on Dec. 25, but the atmosphere was more about giving than receiving at the 10th annual Mitzvah Day. Organizers estimated 1,000 volunteers from the community came to the Park Heights and Owings Mills Jewish community centers to write letters, decorate picture frames and do arts and crafts, all with the intention of sending goods to American soldiers, the Israel Defense Forces and the greater Baltimore community.a

More than $25,000 was raised to fight brain cancer at the fourth annual Keep Punching 5k/1Miler on May 21. Approximately 575 people - including more than 360 runners and 100 walkers - turned out for the event at Goucher College in Towson.
